Tyrrells Lost Block Chardonnay Chardonnay, 2007
An impending storm, vineyard workers were hurried out of the
H.V.D. (Hunter Valley Distillery) vineyard to pick less storm resistant
fruit. Some weeks later the Vineyard Manager (whom shall remain
nameless) discovered, to his horror, a very ripe, unpicked block of
Semillon. Thankfully we were so impressed by the characters of the
finished wine that we now intentionally lose the Lost Block each year
to continue the tradition.
Tyrrell’s were actually the first wine company in Australia to produce
a Chardonnay (Vat 47 Chardonnay – first released in 1971), so it is
of no great surprise that they excel with the variety. This wine is the
first release of the Tyrrell’s Lost Block Unwooded Chardonnay and
stylistically it has been crafted to remain true to the Lost Block promise
of fruit-laden, fresh and easy to drink wines.
